Attached in Spanish emails: is “Adjunto le envío” correct?
By Soltura · Published · Reviewed
Yes, Adjunto le envío la factura is correct. The RAE’s Diccionario panhispánico de dudas says adjunto is an adjective that agrees with its noun (Le envío adjuntas las fotografías), but that the invariable adjunto used like an adverb, especially at the start of a sentence, is common in administrative writing and is “not a censurable use”. Two other safe options: the verb adjuntar (Le adjunto el contrato) and the noun el archivo adjunto. Avoid atachar.

The rule
There are three correct patterns, and the RAE backs each one.
- Invariable adjunto first: Adjunto le envío los documentos. The DPD notes this adverbial use is frequent in administrative language and compares it to hablar alto or correr rápido.
- Agreeing adjective: Le envío adjuntas las fotografías, Adjuntos van los expedientes que me solicitó, la documentación adjunta. These are the DPD’s own model sentences.
- The verb adjuntar: the DLE defines it as sending something together with a letter or electronic message. Le adjunto el contrato firmado. With tú: Te adjunto…
Other set phrases: Adjunto encontrará… (“Please find attached…”), Le envío en archivo adjunto…, and for a forgotten file, Disculpe, olvidé adjuntar el archivo. Se lo envío ahora. The DPD calls the English attachment and the made-up atachar unnecessary, because (archivo) adjunto, anexo, adjuntar and anexar already exist.
